November 2018 — Pumpkin FroYo

The holiday season is full of heavy foods and sweet treats. Why not lighten up a bit and make a nutritious AND tasty seasonal dessert?

If you’re looking to lose weight and create fat burning muscle, cut unhealthy fats and increase protein where you can. One quick switch is to use nonfat or low fat Greek yogurt rather than sour cream or mayonnaise. In this recipe, the yogurt assists with the creamy texture and provides B12 for healthy blood and nerve cells. Avocados are a good source of healthy fat and Vitamin K (beneficial for blood clotting and bone health).  And the pumpkin provides 100% of the RDA of vitamin A for the day (good for vision, immune system, and organ health).


  • 1 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling!)
  • 1 medium avocado
  • 1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 3 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract


Place all ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth. Transfer into a container and freeze until firm enough to scoop. Serves 3.
